Community Labor and Birth Doula Services in Metro Detroit

Helping you confidently Navigate labor and birth with evidence based research while prioritizing safety and minimizing interventions

Pregnancy is a beautiful time - but whether it’s your first pregnancy or tenth, you probably have thousands of questions running through your head every day.

You can think of a doula as the person who walks you through these questions and more. Through your birth and postpartum period, a doula provides physical, emotional, and informational support, making sure you are empowered no matter what your birth and postpartum experience look like.

Meet Your Metro Detroit Community Doula

Shekita M. Long, Labor and Birth Doula

Peace!  My name is Shekita!  I am a mother of three beautiful children and come from a huge family where I began my love for pregnancy, birth, and children.

My grandmother had eight children whom she birthed at home and her house was always filled with love and laughter.  This is why making a deep connection with every one of my clients is a top priority! By doing so we create a bond of trust and support that is so important to have.

My work centers around community and my mission is to help lower the infant and maternal mortality rates in the city of Detroit.  This drew me to becoming trained as a labor and birth doula as well as a community health worker.  I believe in empowered choices and following the lead of the birthing person in order to be of service in the best way I can.

Research shows that women of color often do not get the same quality of care as White women. Race-related health inequities continue to place the lives of Black women and their families at risk, but finding supportive doctors can change that.
