Meet Your Doula

Shekita (she/her)

I’m Shekita Long—a passionate advocate for transformative perinatal care and a dedicated Community Health Worker (CHW) serving families across Metro Detroit. As a CAAPA-trained Birth and Labor Doula, Army Veteran, yoga teacher, and Reiki practitioner, I weave mindfulness, movement, and wellness into every stage of your birthing journey.

With advanced training and certification as a Spinning Babies® Certified Birth Professional (SpBCBP) and an A.C.T.T. Black Coalition for Safe Motherhood (BSFM) facilitator, I integrate evidence-based comfort techniques and cultural humility to help you feel informed, empowered, and at ease.

As Co-Director of Community Outreach for The Lunar Doula Collective and a Board Member of the Detroit Psychedelic Society, I am deeply rooted in community collaboration—bridging traditional wisdom with modern care to create inclusive spaces for healing, education, and support.

A proud member of the Motor City Doula Association, I continue to expand my education and practice to better serve birthing people and families. My philosophy is simple:

Birth is not just a medical event—it is a sacred, transformative experience deserving of honor, respect, and compassionate care.

My mission is to help you embrace your power, trust your body, and experience birth as the profound life transition it truly is. Together, we’ll create a nurturing environment where you and your family can thrive.

Embrace the Power of Birth!

Explore the transformative journey of  birth, where you can connect deeply with your body and your baby. As your Doula, I will provide tools and support to help you feel confident and empowered, guiding you to harness your innate strength

MY STORY

Why I love being a community doula in Metro Detroit

It is my desire to guide birthing people and their families in achieving the births that they desire. I want women to feel strong and empowered in their labor and delivery, not like someone in need of rescuing.  Supporting and guiding women through pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period is honestly not something I ever thought I would do. It has been a personal journey of healing as well as a journey of learning.  I give thanks.
