Meet Your Doula
Shekita
I am Shekita Long, Community Health Worker (CHW), CAAPA Trained Birth and Labor Doula, Army Veteran, Yoga Teacher, and Reiki Practitioner specializing in Mindfulness and Wellness.
I have a passion for continuing education, volunteering as a UofM Dial-A-Doula, and am also an active member of thee Motor City Doula Association, a nonprofit organization in Metro Detroit that provides support to Birth Working professionals.
I believe that birth is not just a medical event; it’s a profound life experience. I honor the traditions and rituals that surround birth, and advocate for informed choices and respectful care for my clients and their families. I am trained in evidence-based practices and committed to creating a nurturing environment where you can thrive.
MY STORY
Why I love being a community doula in Metro Detroit
It is my desire to guide birthing people and their families in achieving the births that they desire. I want women to feel strong and empowered in their labor and delivery, not like someone in need of rescuing. Supporting and guiding women through pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period is honestly not something I ever thought I would do. It has been a personal journey of healing as well as a journey of learning. I give thanks.
