Why This Directory Exists?

This directory is more than a list of physicians.

It is part of the Detroit Black Birth Archive, an ongoing project dedicated to preserving the stories of Detroit's Black physicians, midwives, nurses, childbirth educators, doulas, and community leaders who have shaped maternal and infant health across generations.

Research shows that women of color often do not get the same quality of care as White women.  Race-related health inequities continue to place the lives of Black women and their families at risk, but finding supportive doctors can change that.
