Mindfulness-Based Childbirth and Parenting Doula Support

Helping you confidently Navigate PREGNANCY, CHILDBIRTH, AND PARENTING with evidence based COMPREHENSIVE MINDFULLNESS EDUCATION while prioritizing safety and minimizing interventions

Pregnancy is a beautiful time - but whether it’s your first pregnancy or tenth, you probably have thousands of questions running through your head every day.

You can think of a doula as the person who walks you through these questions and more. Through your birth and postpartum period, a doula provides physical, emotional, and informational support, making sure you are empowered no matter what your birth and postpartum experience look like.

Meet Your Metro Detroit Community Doula

Shekita M. Long, CHW, CPST

Shekita is a dedicated and compassionate doula based in Livonia, MI, with a strong commitment to supporting families through the transformative journey of childbirth. With a background in Mindfulness and Trauma Informed care, Shekita has honed the skills necessary to provide physical, emotional, and informational support to expecting parents.

Operating from a home-based practice, Shekita offers personalized doula services that cater to the unique needs of each family. Her approach is rooted in creating a safe and nurturing environment, empowering parents to make informed choices about their birthing experiences. In addition to traditional doula support, Shekita conducts workshops and offers resources on topics such as childbirth education, advocacy, and car seat safety.

Passionate about equity in maternal and child health, Shekita envisions transforming her doula practice into a nonprofit organization, the Empower Birth Initiative, focused on empowering the Black community through culturally significant birthing ceremonies and motherhood initiations. Drawing inspiration from Wombs of the World in South Africa, this initiative aims to honor and integrate cultural traditions into the childbirth experience. By providing access to free or low cost educational workshops, and community support, the Empower Birth Initiative seeks to celebrate the richness of cultural heritage while ensuring that every family has the resources and support needed for a positive birthing experience. Through this nonprofit, Shekita is committed to fostering a strong sense of community and connection among families during one of life’s most profound transitions.
